Student Story: Brandon Servin

My name is Brandon Servin. I am a YVC student taking English classes. I am very proud to be a community college student. I would like to study drone piloting in the future, but I face financial barriers.

My name is Duke, and I am originally from Zambia, Africa. When I entered the United States, I was mostly in foster care and then was adopted at five years old. I am currently a student at Yakima Valley College to pursue film directing and to one day write and film a movie.

Hello, my name is Leticia Baeza. I was born in Guadalajara, Mexico; I am currently 56 years old. I am attending Yakima Valley College to obtain my psychology or social work degree. I am studying to be a role model for my children. I have four beautiful children who are already adults, and one of my daughters is attending YVC with me.

My name is Brisbani. I chose a community college because I did a part time running start during highschool and I decided to finish my prerequisites at Everett Community College, in order to transfer to a four year university.

My name is Laura Valentina Vasquez Pastrana. I was born in a small town named Soacha, which is located next to the capital of my country Bogotá. I am the oldest daughter from a family of two girls and her parents.

My name is Jessica Rebolledo. I am a high school student and took advantage of my first two years to study the basics at YVC. After graduating from college, I am interested in studying social work because I want to help immigrants.

My name is Emily Solano, and I was born and raised in Washington. I am a student at Skagit Valley College. I decided to pursue a teaching career because I love working with students. I want to make a difference, so I decided to become a teacher, particularly for kindergarten or first grade.

My name is Jhovana Alexandra Cota. I decided to study English classes at YVC. I did it to give my son a future and grow as a person, and I would feel very proud to graduate from a community college. I am very positive about studying.

My name is Balbina, I came to the US in 2020. When I came to the US, I had no knowledge of any adult classes. I’m a mother of five who immigrated to the U.S. a few years ago with the goal to have a better life. The journey to achieve my educational goals has been anything but easy.

I am Aracele Ebe, a student at Bellevue College. Since I was young, I dreamed of becoming a doctor, but financial struggles made it impossible to finish my college classes.
