My name is Moises Chavez. I am an English student at YVC. I am in a country where the official language is English. It is a necessity to know it, and this helps me to be able to advance. Knowing this language is a very important tool, and I would feel very proud to be a graduate of a community college.

I am thinking about studying nursing in the future. I have always liked to help people, especially the elderly, who do not have access to health care. I would also like to be a paramedic, but what prevents me in the first place from finishing training is the economic part. We arrived in this country, and the priority is to help our family in our country. We cannot invest in studying. If college were free, we would not worry about working, and I could study. I found out that a degree can be worth 30 thousand dollars, that is what I earn in a year from dawn to dusk. If college were free, I could continue helping my family and continue studying.
For me, an opportunity to do work study is very good because I could work right here and study, but it would be good if everyone had access to this job regardless of their immigration status. As the head of the household, I would tell the person who reads my testimony that a free college would allow me to finish my training and preparation. It could help. For my family to come with me to this country, and I would be able to work here contributing to the country with my work, it would give a better quality of life to my family, and I would not be far from them.
