My name is Leslie Flores. I am one of five children. I chose Everett Community College because it was close to home during my Running Start year. After many major changes, I finally decided to pursue a career in Nursing.

I plan on getting into a Nursing program either at Everett or somewhere else within the state. After graduating from nursing school, I plan to work in the healthcare field. After a few years, I plan on going back to school to get my Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
Throughout the years, community college has become an expensive part of education not only for international students, but for students who reside in the state. A rented book can cost hundreds of dollars, now imagine owning your own. It is crazy to hear how much students who live on campus have to pay. Community college is what gives students “the chance to save money”, but how much are they saving when students need to pay 2k or more? It is outrageous that some students even need to take out student loans.
I believe that making the first two years of college for CTC students would impact upcoming college students pursuing a higher education. Most students feel discouraged or do not want their parents to stress over needing to pay more bills, even though it is for school. A first generation out of my entire family, not just intermediate family, my cousins did not go to college because they did not want to pay for college. They knew that their parents would not be able to help them neither would financial aid because of how much their parents were making, even if it was a low-income check.
