I’m Zaday Orozco, a 16 year old at Sunnyside High School. I’ve lived in Sunnyside, Washington my whole life. I want to go to college, I’m not sure for what yet exactly, but I know I want to get a decent job. In terms of career, I’m thinking about medicine, law, maybe business.
Guaranteeing the first two years of college free would help a lot of people be successful. I think more students would be able to stay in school because, I would assume there’s a point where… you keep going, but maybe if you don’t make enough money you’re going to have to stop at some point and now be able to finish your education, so if things were more accessible, more people would be able to succeed and finish their careers.
If colleges were to support with gas money, that would be very helpful. For me, the most important wraparound service is probably transportation. Tomorrow, I’m going to see if I can enter driver’s ed before the school year starts, so I can actually drive myself there, because my mom is going to the college, but she is going to be going at a separate time. I was also planning on doing sports this fall, so I would have to start driving myself around. If I’m driving myself around, that’s going to be a different vehicle, which is probably going to cost money. Now it’s going to be three people instead of just two driving, so that’s going to be a lot more gas money, and a pain to my parents’ wallets.
