Student Story: Janeth Cortes

My name is Janeth Cortes. I am a student at YVC Grandview. I am proud to study English classes and would like to study Business Administration. I am from the state of Mexico, and I will arrive in this country in 2023.

I want college to be free because I am a mother and wife, and the career I want to study is costly because I work in a restaurant as a waitress. My salary is the minimum, and because of this, it is a financial barrier that I would not be able to cover the tuition. I would have to discard it from my plans, although it is My dream to study and graduate from school.

Another barrier I have is housing. I am a homeless student. I do not have my own house. I live in a relative’s house, and my priority is to find housing for my family. It is my priority, and perhaps I have to choose between it. I continue working. Or study.

If school were free, it would allow me to offer my daughter a better quality of life. You could find a better job as an administrative assistant or another job in that area. I would like to ask if you can make the change, look at us students again so that our efforts bear fruit and that our goal is met and thus graduate from a school and fulfill our dreams, and support free college.
