Student Story: Heidy Quintero

My name is Heydi Quintero, I am advancing my associates at YVCC because I am a high school Running Start student. The career I want to study is dermatology, and it is a very long career, so I want to advance my studies. For me and my family it is a pride that I was a high school graduate.

The barriers I have are financial because my career requires a lot of study time and is very expensive. It would be a relief if college were free because I wouldn’t think about money; I would focus on studying, and I could study what I want, my career. It takes a lot of focus, and if I work, I can’t do it well.

I have a brother who went to study, but because of the money, he could not continue studying. I also have a younger sister who I know could study in the future. If it were free college, my brothers could do it.

I would tell the person who sees my testimony that free school would benefit not only me but others. There are many people who could study the careers they want, and it would also be a lot of help for us and for the community in general to be professionals.
