Student Story: Alondra Romero

My name is Alondra Romero. Two years ago, I left school and could not continue my studies due to economic reasons. I am pregnant, so I want to start a career to give my son a better future.

I am currently registering at the college to begin my career in phlebotomy in the fall. It is a short career and will help me find a job position. I would feel very proud to graduate from a community college and be able to grow professionally in the future.

The economic problem has always been a barrier for me because my mother lives in Mexico, my father works in film, and economic support in my house is very difficult. So, being able to study until now has not been an option because I have had to work for my daily livelihood.

If college were free, it would be a great help since it would not be an economic barrier, and I could achieve my dream of studying. Doing work-study would allow me to continue generating income and not neglect my personal expenses. For the person who reads my testimony, I would tell them to support me and give me the opportunity to study and get ahead. Now.
