My name is Asucena, I am from Chiapas, Mexico and I came to the US in 2006. I moved to Yakima, Washington in 2010. I am studying English since I want to get better at it. I am proud to be in college because I have proven to myself that I am capable of learning. After I finish my studies in community college, I plan on studying to become an early childhood educator, and get my bachelors degree.
Right now, I only pay $25 for school but once I start my career, go to college or university, it won’t be $25. It will be substantially more, and I am unsure if I or anyone else can pay that. I am married and a mother. I currently work and study but once I start university, I won’t be able to balance all of life’s work and pay the bills on time. This often leads me to think that it is better to simply not study. Not being able to achieve your dreams is sad and maddening. Which is why I implore legislators to pass a free college initiative. It would be beneficial to not only me, but others, that we can put our best effort if we had the opportunity to make our dreams come true. It would be beneficial to our community and country. I would have the opportunity that I have not had anywhere else.
